Originating from conversations between young UK professionals who believed in the importance of leveraging the youth of the diaspora, the idea of a volunteering trip was conceived.

With the help of UK registered charity Tamil Aid, planning to take 20 individuals on the inaugural Aram Trip began

The Aram Initiative

Inspired to make more meaningful and long term impact driven changed, the initiative underwent a restructure. The idea of the Aram Initiative is to reconnect diaspora and make a sustained impact gave rise to the three pillars: Discovery, Research & Insights and Long term Initiatives

The Aram Trip 2024

During this trip of 30 volunteers, the team visited the hill country, Eastern and Northern provinces of Sri Lanka engaging in healthcare, business, education and lifestyle related activities and workshops with the local communities and donating resources. The core aim of this trip was for volunteers to discover and understand the struggles and successes of local communities with hopes of brainstorming solutions.

Aram: Research & Insights

With the discoveries made during the 2024 trip, our volunteers produced their first thought piece which follows the female self help groups we came across in the hill country. Please read here.
